The nation's largest boating and marine supply retailer is restructuring after supply chain disruptions, extreme weather, and shifting consumer habits.

West Marine, the largest retailer of boating, sailing, and fishing supplies in the United States, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 17. The company has confirmed it will close 59 stores across the country as part of its restructuring efforts.

"The steps we are taking today will allow us to optimize our operations and streamline our footprint."
— Paulee Day, CEO of West Marine

Why Did West Marine File for Bankruptcy?

West Marine plans to use the bankruptcy process to strengthen its balance sheet, reduce debt, and improve financial flexibility. The company has secured an agreement with lenders to use cash collateral during the restructuring and obtained commitments for new financing.
